What is placenta encapsulation? Placentophagy is the term used to describe the ingestion of the placenta after childbirth. Placenta encapsulation is where the placenta is dehydrated, ground up, and put into capsules. What are the benefits of placenta encapsulation? Benefits of placenta encapsulation may include: - Increased milk supply - Reduction of postpartum bleeding - Enhancement of mood, with a decrease of the "baby blues" and postpartum depression - Increased iron levels -Balance of hormones - Regulate sleep patterns - Reduction of after birth pain - Quicker overall recovery Is there only one way to prepare the placenta? No. There are a few different ways to prepare the placenta. One way is the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method. The Chinese believe that warming foods enhances the QI of the birthing person. This method is done where I steam the placenta using herbs such as myrrh, lemon, and ginger. Once the placenta is steamed, I dehydrate it, grind it up, and fill capsules with the powder. Another method is the RAW method. This method bypasses the steaming, and I dehydrate it raw. However, at this time, we only offer the TCM method of encapsulation. I am not comfortable providing the raw method as risk of food born illness is higher than I am comfortable with. Another way to prepare the placenta is by making a tincture. This tincture does use alcohol, but is also beneficial. The tincture and capsules are both everlasting if stored correctly.
What is offered in the placenta encapsulation package and how much does it cost? All packages include a placenta print, an umbilical memento, the tincture, and capsules. If you are a doula client, you do recieve a discount on placenta packages.
